Jean Claude Henri Ecuer was the son of Annette Francoise Chamard and Claude Marie Ecuer. His mother died five days after his birth and his father died in 1872 when Jean was twenty years old. He had already emigrated to Louisiana by that time as the Times-Picayune advertised a letter being held at the post office for him just two weeks after his father had passed away. In New Orleans on the 24th of Sep., 1888 Jean married fellow French immigrant Leonie Courte (or Lacour) at St Mary's Church on Chartres St. He was the father of Sophie Louise Ecuer (Robichaux), John Henry Ecuer, Charles F Ecuer, Marie Louise Ecuer (Farlay, Schultz), Alice Lydia "Mamie" Ecuer (Anderson) and Marguerite Angele Ecuer (Provost).
