Deron Savalas Butler, 38, of 867 Colony Drive, Apt. 119, Charleston, SC, departed this walk of life after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at HospiceCare of Piedmont, in Greenwood, South Carolina.
Born on December 7, 1973 in Greenwood, South Carolina, he was the youngest of four children born to Mr. Mack C. and Mrs. Annie R. Valentine Butler. Deron was a wonderful person, a free spirit who never met a stranger. Deron believed everyone had a story. He loved people and had a captivating way of making you feel important. He always put others concerns ahead of his own. Deron was a devoted uncle to his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. His cheerful wit and loving devotion endeared them to Uncle Deron. He had a spectacular smile. To know him, was to love him. He made his name in Charleston and had the love and support of many dear friends.
Deron graduated from Greenwood High School. He attended Lander University and Greenville Technical College. Deron graduated from Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology in 2007. He was a licensed cosmetologist and worked at various salons in Columbia, SC, Atlanta, Ga, and Charleston, SC. Deron was employed by Nick's Salon, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, where he worked as a stylist for the last 3 years.
He is survived by his parents, Mack and Annie Butler, of Greenwood, SC; one sister, Deborah Ann (Clifton) Burns, of Columbia, SC; two brothers, Larry Butler, of Greenwood; and Richard Butler, of Atlanta, GA; six aunts, Sallie Valentine of Due West, SC, Inez M. Butler of Greenwood, SC, Hattie Aiken of Hodges, SC, Torrie Butler of Greenville, SC, Carrie M. Smith, of Hodges, SC; and Ruth Myers, of Atlanta, Ga; one uncle, Charles Butler of Greenville, SC; two nieces, Nicole (James) Caudle of Augusta, GA and Natasha Burns (Chris) of Columbia, SC; two nephews, Dayne Burns of Columbia, SC and Dorian Butler of Greenwood, SC; great-nieces, Alyssa and Audrey; great-nephews, Andrew and Aidan; four devoted cousins, Rev. Michael Butler, Katinka Butler, Alfreda Kennedy and Risa Tolbert; three devoted friends, Dwayne Proctor, Bruce Washington and Ikbal Jumani; a host of cousins, other relatives and close friends to mourn his passing.
Services are Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Morris Chapel Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Michael A. Butler and assisted by Rev. Tommy Stanford. Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 23, 2012 at Robinson & Son Mortuary from 6 - 8 p.m.
The family is at the home, 1313 East Cambridge Ave, Greenwood.
Services are entrusted to Robinson and Son Mortuary.
