Jack was born July 16, 1933 in Bixby, Oklahoma; the son of Vonna Clark Butler and Eva May (Buchanan) Butler. On July 15, 1954 he was married to Margaret J. Pickerel in Monument, NM. He came to Artesia in August 1970 from Reserve, N.M.

He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He was a Teacher and administrator in the Public Schools. He was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church, member of American Legion, Gideons, and the Retired School Teachers Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
