JAMES J. LIVEOAK, the fourth child of Francis and Mary Liveoak was born in 1837, in Fayette County, Georgia. He was twenty four years old at the time of the Civil War,unmarried and living at home. The census report of 1860 list his occupation as a "Hatter". He made hats. James married Margaret Moore on February 14, 1861 in Coosa County, Alabama.

JAMES J. LIVEOAK, ENLISTED ON MAY 03, 1862, as a Pvt. at Rockford, Alabama, in Co. C, 3rd Battalion, Hillard's Legion - Alabama Volunteers. The Confederate records show his being left sick or wounded in Lexington, Ky. He was captured on October 14, 1862, just six months and sixteen days after he was drafted. It is believed that he was put on a train to Vicksburg from Kentucky after he was captured. James J. Liveoak died in the POW Hospital in Vicksburg, MS.

Cause of Death
Died from sickness or wounds in the Vicksburg prisoner of war hospital on 19 Nov 1862. He was captured on 14 Oct 1862 in Kentucky and was shipped from Ky to Vicksburg on the steamer "Metropolitan".


Regarding Regimental and Company Units, once Company C 3rd Bat. Rebecca Williams Rifles. James was 5' 9 1/2" tall, dark hair, dark complexion, and grey (blue) eyes. James was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Vicksburg, Warren County Mississippi, USA along with other Alabama Civil War Soldiers.
