Margaret was the third of eleven children born to Henry and Elizabeth Julia Flournoy Johnson of Fayette County, Kentucky and Washington County, Mississippi. She became the second wife of James Patton Erwin on February 21, 1843 at her father's plantation, "Chatham", in Washington County, Mississippi. This couple became parents to five children: Lillie, Emily, Victor, Johnson, and James. Her husband sold some property in New Orleans in order to build a mansion home for his wife, but he died before this could be accomplished. The task would fall on Margaret's second husband to complete. Margaret's beloved "Mount Holly" was finally built for her in Washington County, Mississippi by Dr. Charles Wilkins Dudley, a man of means whom she married at Lake Washington on January 17, 1855. "Mount Holly" was left standing by Union Troops when they rampaged through the country in the aftermath of the fall of Vicksburg, and is one of the only remaining antebellum homes still standing in the Yazoo Mississippi Delta. Margaret and her second husband had one child together, Charles Wilkins Dudley, Jr. She died at Lexington, Kentucky.
