A Life Well Lived
Janice Ruth Isbell Birkhahn was born in Tracy, California to Loren and Rena Beattie Isbell on December 16, 1929, and passed away after a short illness on September 14, 2013.
Janice attended Tracy schools, was active in the New Jerusalem Mothers Club and was a 4-H Leader for many years - her cooking classes were legendary! Janice volunteered regularly at the Tracy Hospital and loved acting. She was an active member of Tracy's Little Theatre group - musicals were her favorite, particularly Damn Yankees and Oklahoma! She loved gardening and walking with her dear friend Pat Baker. Mom loved her monthly card group gatherings, evenings with special card playing friends Rodney and Becky Santos and Mike and Lois Brenkwitz, and special lunches with good friends Jim Dani and Bev Silveria.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Milton Miller Birkhahn, three daughters, Michelle (Gary) Nelson of Clovis, Joan (Perry) Detmering of Stockton and Julie Adams of Stockton; grandchildren, Alicia Nelson, Erik (Ashley) Nelson of Clovis, Jennifer, Stephanie and Kaylie Detmering, and Levi Adams, all of Stockton. She also leaves behind great grandson Joey Detmering and surrogate son Paul Teranishi. She is survived by her brother Don Isbell of Reno and his dear friend Diane, sister Marlene Herbst of Pismo Beach and her husband Gary, and sister-in-law Mildred Crittenden and her husband, Dale of Fresno.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Rena Isbell and her in-laws, Otto and Margaret Birkhahn.
During her short and unexpected illness, mom's days were filled with visits from her many friends. Our family is forever grateful for those who were able to visit and say goodbye to mom. Relationships were important to her and she valued her friends.
Services will be held at Cherokee Memorial Park (Evergreen Chapel) in Lodi, CA on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. Our family asks that those wishing to remember mom donate to their favorite charity.
