Verner Anderson, 1126 Willard St, World War veteran, died at midnight at the Hines Veterans Hospital where he had been taking treatment for a month. Mr. Anderson, who was stricken with lameness a month ago, appeared to be improving up until Sunday. His condition took a sudden turn Monday and relatives here were notified. Ralph B Johnson, district service officer of the American Legion, took Mr. Anderson's brother and sister to Hines late Monday night.
The body was to be brought to Galesburg this afternoon and funeral announcement will be made on Thursday.
Anders Verner Anderson, son of AG and Helen Karlson, was born near Rimforsa, Sweden, December 10, 1889. He came to Galesburg as a young man together with Herman, Thure and Adele Anderson and resided with them at the home of the sister, Anna Fagerberg.
Mr. Anderson served in the US Army 388 days during the World War. He left Galesburg on March 12, 1918, for Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, and was shortly after that transferred to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, where he remained until his honorable discharge on April 4, 1919.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the First Lutheran Church and a member of the church choir. For years he sang in a church quartet. He was a member of the Ralph M Noble post, No 285, American Legion, and of local Swedish-American fraternal organizations.
Immediate relatives surviving are the sisters Adele Anderson and Anna Fagerberg and the brothers, Thure and Herman Anderson. The father and two brothers still dwell in Sweden.
