Born Cardell Mosson JR in New Brunswick NJ, he grew up in Plainfield, NJ and then relocated to Canada as a teenager with his friend Gary Shider. The pair joined a group called United Soul, which led to an introduction to George Clinton. Clinton produced some of the sides recorded by the group, later renamed U.S. Music with Funkadelic. Gary and Cordell were then invited by George to join Parliament-Funkadelic.
As a member of the Parliament-Funkadelic collective he played bass, drums and guitar. "Boogie" as he was known to everyone, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 along with other Parliament-Funkadelic members.
He continued to tour with the Parliament-Funkadelic collective until his death from liver failure April 18th 2013.
