Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in St. Probus, Truro, Cornwall England, he served as a Bombardier in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, British Army. On April 3, 1858, at the assault on the Jhansi Fort, India, Bombardier Brennan under heavy enemy fire brought up two guns of the Hyderabad Contingent, manned by Natives. Directing fire and positioning his men, he accurately compelled the enemy to abandon their battery. For most prestigious gallantry, he was invested with his Victoria Cross in Gwalior, India, on April 20, 1860 and later achieved the rank of Sergeant. He died of pneumonia at age 54 in Shorncliffe Camp, Folkstone, Kent, England.
