The headstone says "Cornet Thomas Dewey Dyed April 27th Ano 1690: IN the 52nd Yeare of His Age:"
Thomas like his father, was also a Cornet. He was appointed Cornet of the Troop of Horse in Jul 1585 for Hampshire County, Mass. At the time, the rank of Cornet was the lowest grade of commissioned officer and equivalent to a 2nd Lt today.
