Laurie was born on Oct 31, 1976 and at six weeks of age got a real bad case of diarrhea. When we took her to the doctor, he immediately consulted the pedi cardiologist and she was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, one that could not be corrected. When she was 14 I found out that a surgery had been perfected for her condition four years earlier, but the doctor had failed to let me know about it because 'he was under the impression I wouldn't have any surgery performed on Laurie'. I was in shock for days, weeks, months. Finally got some tests started to see if she was a candidate for the surgery. It took two years before he finally got her referred to a surgeon. At the age of 16 we took her to Boston, MA to have open heart surgery to 'fix' it but she died on the operating table. The surgeon told us while she was still alive that she 'really had a bad heart' just the opposite of what he told us the night before to get our consent for the surgery. I think he just wanted to see what her 'uncommon heart defect' looked like. She was our only child. "if love could cure, she never would have died". Laurie, we'll love you forever. Mommy and Daddy
