Pfc Cassady, a native of Indiana but residing in Los Angeles County, California joined the National Guard on March 3, 1941.
He later transferred to active duty and volunteered for parachutist status. He may have joined the 508th at Camp Mackall, NC after completing jump school.
In March 1945 the 508th was relieved and transferred to Sissonne, France for R&R (Rest and Relaxation) after enduring months of combat in the snow during the Battle of The Bulge.
Shortly after arriving in France Pfc Cassady was killed while handling a faulty hand grenade.
