He volunteered for parachutist duty and was assigned to Company I of the 508rh Parachute Infantry Regiment at Camp Blanding, FL.
Pvt Becker participated in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day, 6 June 1944. He was recognized for his demonstration of leadership by being promoted directly to Sgt on 21 July 44.
Sgt Becker made his second combat jump on 17 Sept 1944 into Holland during Operation Market Garden. He was severely wounded in action that same day and subsequently died on 22 September [note that his grave marker states 27 Sept 44).
Warren was initially interred on 27 Sept 44 in Plot A Row 9 Grave 174 in the Molenhoek Temporary Cemetery, Holland.
Following the war his parents chose the option of having his remains repatriated and he was laid to his final rest in Section 4. Lot 600 Grave 1 of Eden Park Memorial cemetery.
