GEORGE W. CARPENTER, JR. was born in Philadelphia, the son of Rachel Barnholt and George W. Carpenter.
His siblings included:
William H. Carpenter (1837-1918)
James Knox Polk Carpenter (1845-1865) - James was a Union soldier who was "accidentally shot by a comrade's gun" outside of Petersburg, VA just two weeks before the end of the Civil War.
Sarah "Sallie" Carpenter Hunter.;
Anna Elizabeth Carpenter Roat;
Louis F. Carpenter.;
Maggie, Rachel and Richard.
GEORGE was a lamp inspector and died of "phthisis pulmonitis" which is the latin term for pulmonary tuberculosis.We cannot verify at this time whether George W.Carpenter jr.served in the Civil War or not. He lived at 2119 Sharswood Street in Philadelphia at the time of his death. He was originally buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Philadelphia but was later reinterred in the family plot in Northwood.
