Esther Mae Allen, age 89, Fort Scott, Kansas, died Monday, Mary 5, 2003 at Fort Scott Manor. She was the daughter of Lloyd Dickerson and Nina Cole Hopkins Dickerson.
She was a 1934 graduate of Fort Scott High School. She later received her bachelor's degree from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. She married Howard W. Allen on July 11, 1936, at Fort Scott. They made their home in Davenport, Sioux City, Nevada, Iowa, and Wichita as well as in Fort Scott. Mr. Allen preceded her in death in November 1976. She was a teacher for 31 years. She was a member of the Seventh Davy Adventist Church and the AARP.
Survivors include four daughters, Verlene Hobbs of Hagerstown, Maryland, Valerie Gearhart of Willow Springs, Missouri, Karen Pace of Stockton California, and Karlene Friesen of Lonestar, Missouri; two brothers, Melvin Dickerson of Bronson, Kansas, Robert Dickerson, Kansas City, Missouri; three sisters, Edith Swartz, Lincoln, Nebraska, Genevieve Dickerson, Collegedale, Tennessee and Eva Marie Nordgren, Ooltewah, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, four brothers, and two grandchildren.
The rev. Arthur Schumacher will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Friday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Visitation is planned from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Private burial will take place the Old mission Cemetery, Wichita, Kansas. Memorial contributions are recommended to the Seventh Day Adventist Enterprise Academy.
