"St. Clair - James F. "Slim" Westrick Jr., 56, of St. Clair died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, after a courageous battle that began 22 years ago with brain cancer. He was born April 14, 1944, to James Westrick Sr. and the late Frances Nugent Westrick. "Slim" was a member of Laborers Local 463 and the St. Clair Knights of Columbus Council 2251. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. His sense of humor was enjoyed by all.

Slim is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Allyson Westrick; daughters and son-in-law, Beth and Stephen Griffor and Michele Westrick; father, James Westrick Sr., and his wife, Arlene; his brother, William and Joann Westrick; his sister and brother-in-law, Wendy and Steven Kivel; his grandsons, Jordan Griffor and Tanner Westrick; his granddaughters, Amanda Westrick and Sydney Griffor; his nephews, William Westrick Jr. and Christopher Kivel; his nieces, Emily and Camryn Kivel; and his aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances; sister, Sharon Ann; special aunt, Elizabeth "Betty Minton; and lifelong friends, Dennis "Olie" Mead and William "Monch" Monchau.

Services will be at 9'30 a.m. Thursday in Young colonial chapel Funeral Home, China township, and 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair. The Rev. Edward Ritter, pastor, will officiate. Visiting hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the visiting Nurse Association."
