CAYUGA | David F. Bowers, 87, of Center Street, Cayuga, passed away Jan. 20, 2015 at Auburn Community Hospital.

Born in Auburn, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Vera Smith Bowers. David was a 1945 graduate of Union Springs High School and a Coast Guard veteran serving in World War II and an Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was employed with NYSEG for 32 years as a mechanic. David enjoyed traveling with his family, wood working, and gardening. He was a great outdoorsman who loved the sport of hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Cayuga Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ellen Pollard Bowers; a sister, Edna Bielowicz; eight children, David (Laura) Bowers, Sue (Mark) Chase, Sharon (Jim) Skibo, Lorraine Bowers, Virginia (Rick) Uebelman, Jim (Charmie) Bowers, Amy (Mark) Thayer, and Ron (Brenda) Bowers; 15 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Bowers, and by his granddaughter, Lauren Bowers.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 in Cayuga Methodist Church.
