Blanche Mary Bennett, 76, died Wednesday at 12:20 a.m. at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 27, 1899 in the Wellman Community of Wapello County to John Newton Shields and Almeda Christina Lathrop Shields. She was a Blakesburg resident most of her life. Surving are one son, Lt. LaVerne Bennett of Concord Calif., one brother Wilbur Shields of Ottumwa and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Lafayette Christy and Ralph Bennett.
The service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Knedler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Ogden officiating. Buial will be in the Wellman Cemetery, June 2, 1976.
