CHARLESTON — Wayne Alvis, 67, of Charleston passed away at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Schilling Funeral Home, Mattoon. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Casual attire is welcomed. Memorial gifts are suggested to Newport, Ind., Lions Club Hillclimb.

Wayne was born March 6, 1944, in Mattoon, a son of Billie Alvis and Audrey (Littrell) Alvis. He married Linda Sims on Jan. 3, 1983.

Mr. Alvis was a Vietnam veteran. He later worked at Kal-Kan and retired after 23 years. Wayne enjoyed woodworking and loved antique cars. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Linda D. Alvis of Charleston; children, Christi Fox of Cowden, Tony (wife, Amanda) Alvis of Palmetto, Fla., Gina Harris of Mattoon, Stormie (husband, Judd) Coffman of Ashmore and Jim (wife, Heather) Kuykendall of Charleston; grandchildren, Tyler and Kelsey Fox, Adam and Austin Alvis, Trevor and Samantha Harris, and his "little buddies," Alex and Andrew Kuykendall; brothers, Billie Joe (wife, Jean) Alvis of Comanche, Iowa, Donnie (wife, Johnadine) Alvis of Mattoon, Butch (wife, Carla) Alvis of Allenville and Gary Alvis of Ocala, Fla.; and sister, Sally (husband, Bill) Wallace of Allenville. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
