He was the son of the late Henry and Nora Bell Oxendine Baker. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters: Myrtle Baker Jacobs, Jennie Baker Smith, and Susan Baker Locklear; brother: Willie E. Baker.

He attended Pembroke State College and graduated from the University of South Carolina. He proudly served his country for four years as an Army Paratrooper. He retired from Boozer Lumber as a Construction Estimator.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Annie Chavis Baker; three sons: Delbert "Bert" Baker, Jr. and his wife Victoria of Lexington, SC, Timothy Baker of Mooresville, NC and Michael Baker of Lexington, SC; daughter: Karen Ann Baker Hendrix, and her husband Hal of West Columbia, SC; and five grandchildren: Rachel Smith, Lauren Hendrix, Taylor Hendrix, Michelle Rodgers and Benjamin Baker and a host of family and friends.

A visitation was held Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2 PM at Red Bank Baptist Church in Lexington, SC. A Memorial Service, celebrating his life, followed at 3 PM at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Men's Ministry of Red Bank Baptist Church, 120 Community Drive, Lexington, SC 29073.
