Married to the late Louise Thompson Berry. He was the son of the late John James and Mary Davis Berry. He was a retired farmer and a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Lyn Herlong and her husband, Rocky of Manning; Deb B. Richardson and her husband, Lucien of Summerton; a grandson, James J. and his wife, Tiffany Herlong of Crownsville, MD; three granddaughters, Jennifer Herlong of Sumter, Kristen Rembert and her husband, Bryan of Summerton; and Heather Thomy and her husband Wil of Lake City; and four great grandchildren.
