She was the daughter of the late Cornelius Clark and Azilee Keith Clark. Her husband, William J. Akin and son, W. Scott Akin, preceded her in death. She was 88.

A memorial service was held at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Eutawville.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Hugh and Dorinda Akin of Dallas, Michael Akin and Kathy Simons of Indianapolis, and R. Lucas and Amy Akin of Liverpool, NY; seven grandchildren, Nancy A. Shellhorse, Meridith C. Constant, Phillip S. Cavender, Kaitlyn Clark Akin, Jessica Jo Akin, William Charles Akin and Laura Stewart Akin; six great-grandchildren; a niece, Florence Dodington; and a nephew, Roger Holley.
