Edward Byard Quein 'Ed', 68, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center, Main.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel. His funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Eddie Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews.

Born June 20, 1941 in Bridgeton, N.J. Mr. Quein was a son of the late Byard John Quein and Ida Gwendolyn Russell Quein. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mr. Quein owned and operated Carpet Genie Cleaning and Fibercare for over 20 years. He played 'Santa Ed' for the Shriner's at the Southern Christmas Show for 17 years. More recently, he drove professionally for Carmel Hill Retirement Community. He was a member of the Charlotte Choral Society and sang in the Singing Christmas Tree. Mr. Quein was a member of the Bill Parker Sertoma Club, where he volunteered at Camp Sertoma, a camp for speech and hearing impaired children.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Karen (Wall) Quein, and two sons, Eddie Quein and Brian Quein, all of Charlotte; a brother, Doug M. Quein and his wife, Barbara of Newfield, N.J.; his sister, Nana Quein of Bridgeton, N.J.; and his loving dog, sable. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bill Parker Sertoma Club, 2801 Carmel Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28226."
