Kenneth Patton Stults, 79, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born on April 28, 1934 in Springfield, the son of the late Oren W. and Margaret Fern (Patton) Stults. He married Ruth Brewer on March 20, 1971 in Springfield.
Mr. Stults was a graduate of Springfield High School in 1952. He graduated from the University of Illinois with his B.S. degree in 1958 and with his M.S. degree in 1972. He retired from the State of Illinois Department of Transportation working as a Professional Structural Engineer. After retiring from IDOT, he worked for Coombe-Bloxdorf Engineering Co. He had served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of Harvard Park Baptist Church, ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), and ISCE (IL Society of Civil Engineers). He was also an avid L.A. Dodgers fan all of his life.
He is survived by his wife Ruth and 2 daughters, Kendra (husband Derrick) Henke of Auburn, IL and Krista (husband Chad) Lohnes of East Peoria, IL; 6 grandchildren, Kierra, Kendrick, and Kynzie Henke, and Auggie, Adler, and Greta "Grace" Lohnes. He is also survived by 2 nieces and 2 nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Helen Blackburn, Mary Brackett, and Gwen Stults.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at 11 am at the funeral home, with Dr. John Charlton officiating. Burial will follow at West Cemetery in Thayer, IL.
