Marathon runner. He was the first Kenyan to win the olympic gold medal in the marathan event having done so in 2008 at the Bejing summer olympics while setting a world record. In 2007, he won the Fukuoka marathon and Ras Al Khaimah half marathon where he set a world record in half marathon. He won the Chicago marathon in 2009 and 2010. He also won the London marathon in 2010.
