Son of James Lewis Massey Boyd, Machinist at the Naval Academy and his wife Martha Julia. He was the grandson of Capt. Isaac Lansdale Boyd and his wife Frances. Harry was a Captain of Engineers, United States Coast Guard and married Julia Brown McIlvaine. They had two daughters Mildred Florence Boyd (Mrs. Francis Worth Scanland) and Margaret Virginia Boyd (Mrs. Clinton Philo Kendall). His son-in-law Clinton also served in the Engineers, USCG and he and his wife are also buried at Arlington.

COMMODORE H. L. BOYD DIES IN MASSACHUSETTS Retired Coast Guard Engineering Corps Officer to Be Buried Monday in Arlington. Word was received here today of the death of Commodore Harry L. Boyd. United States Coast Guard Engineering Corps. retired. Thursday at his home in Wollaston, Mass. A daughter, Mrs. Mildred B Scanland wife of Comdr. F. W. Scanland. U. S. N.. is a resident of this city. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery Monday with ranking officers of the Coast Guard as pallbearers Surviving in addition to Mrs. Scanland are his widow, Mrs. Julia M. Boyd of Wollaston. Mass . and another daughter. Mrs. Margaret B. Kendall, wife of Comdr C P. Kendal!, U. S. C. G . of Point Pleasant. W Va. Commodore Boyd was 71 years of age and entered the Coast Guard service as an ensign in May. 1885. He served for more than 41 years in stations on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and Great Lakes, the Gulf of Mexico, and Alaskan waters. He was retired in 1926.
