Il barone Marcel Bich è stato un imprenditore italiano naturalizzato francese. Originario di una nobile famiglia valdostana, (Châtillon, Valle d'Aosta) trasferitasi dapprima a Torino e poi in Francia, divenne famoso per aver modificato e diffuso la penna a sfera, comprandone verso gli anni '50, il brevetto al suo inventore ungherese László József Bíró. Quando Bich acquistò il brevetto, trattavasi di poco più che un progetto, in quanto non era stata ancora creata la tecnologia per l'affinamento del prodotto e la sua produzione, che fu da egli avviata con tecnologia automatizzata svizzera di alta precisione. Nel 1953, fondò la Société Bic e il prodotto venne diffuso in tutto il mondo con tale nome, ricavato togliendo l'acca al suo cognome.
