David Oliver Miles was the son of Ebenezer Miles and Jane A. Covington.

He was a Private in Capt. Hurt's Battery, Alabama Light Artillery, CSA. He was present at Appamattox, when General Lee surrendered.

He married Miss Mary Alford in Union Parish, Louisiana on 14 Jan 1869.
They had ten children:
David Ebenezer,
Frances,
Henry Rasberry,
William Grisby,
Charles Anderson,
Geefie Madison,
Ulela/Eulela Elizabeth,
DeLonie,
Sylvester/Selvester, and
Mary Valentine.

He died in LaSalle Parish; however, NO marked grave has ever been located for him. In his memory and honor, the Sons of the Confederacy placed the CSA marker as a CENOTAPH, located near the grave of his daughter, Ulela/Eulela Elizabeth Miles Mize, in Springhill Cemetery.
