Assigned to Company B, 324th Machine Gun Battalion 83rd Division, then transferred, August 12, 1918, to Company D, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division.

He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Wounded in action, Oct. 16, 1918, by shell fire, vicinity of St. Souplet, France.

Returned from France, March 8, 1919, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken, NJ.

Marched in the " Welcome Home Parade ", for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, March 25, 1919.

Discharged from the Army, April 5, 1919.
