A Life Remembered ~ Charles Barrow ~ Grandson of John Barrow, Esq., Magistrate of Wedmore, England

Charles was the grandson of the Magistrate of Wedmore in Somerset County, England. Attached is the 1841 English Census for Wedmore where Charles was listed as living with his grandparents in Wedmore. [More information of the Barrow family and of Wedmore, England can be found on tutton.org]
Charles married sometime between 1860 and 1870 to a woman whose first name was Jane. She was born in 1833 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. The couple was living in the Mile End Area of London where Charles worked in wine sales. His brother-in-law Henry Ernest Wylde, his father Charles Barrow and uncles were Wine Merchants in England.
His wife, Jane, must have died some time between the 1871 English Census and the 1880 United States Census where he was listed as a widower.
Presumably Jane died between 1870 and 1872 because Charles immigrated to New City, New York in 1872. Initially, he lived with his sister Elizabeth Barrow Wylde. In the 1880 US Census, he was listed as a widower.
On 21st pf February 1904, Charles died in Manhattan, New York. His cause of death was due to a to a heart condition. He had been living in New York City at the time of his death. St. John Episcopal Church, located on Main Street, New City, New York was in charge of the burial. His burial record is attached to this memorial .
