Affeld Youth Dead, Report
Staff Sgt. Freddie K. Affeld Dies in Action in South Pacific
Staff Sergeant Freddie K. Affeld, of Valparaiso RFD 4, reported Feb. 6 as missing in action in the South Pacific, was killed in action on Jan. 13.
This was the word received Saturday night from the war department by his father, Ernest Affeld.
Young Affeld, who was 23 years of age last Nov. 3, entered the service on Oct. 10, 1941, and went across last October. He had been in Australia. At the time, he was reported missing, he was a member of a bomber crew of the army air corps.
Last time members of the family heard from Freddie was on Dec. 29, last.
In addition to his father, the youth is survived by three brothers, Howard, Robert and Vernon; and four sisters, Florence, Rosella, Erma and Treva, all of Valparaiso.
Young Affeld is one of 18 Porter County men who have been reported either missing or killed in action since the U. S. declared war.
