Deaths.
S.C. Black Died Suddenly.
S.C. Black, died Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at St. Mary's hospital where he went about ten days ago. The cause of his death was kidney complications. Death came as a surprise. His friends knew that he was going to the hospital, but he said for a minor operation. However, he nor his friends appreciated the seriousness of the trouble. Kidney trouble is always said to be serious, by physicians, and this is what his trouble was.

Same Black as he was familiarly called, came to Winfield about twenty-five years ago. He was a tinner and plumber by trade. He soon started in business and was the owner and manager of Black's Hardware store for a number of years.

He was a pioneer Kansan. He went to Western Kansas in his early manhood and settled at Dodge City. He lived there a number of years before coming to Winfield.

He was always a public spirited citizen and a successful merchant. His death will be keenly mourned by the business associates who worked with him.

He leaves a wife and stepson who mourns him as a father.

The funeral services will be held at the Episcopal church of which he was a member, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. Relatives from out of the city are expected.
