Eugene Paul Asselin was born March 15, 1917 at Oklee, MN son of the late Clifford and Elzima (Lessard) Asselin. He was raised and attended school in Oklee, MN and baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Church. He farmed with his family on the home farm. On July 5, 1937 he was united in marriage to Eva Gauthier at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Plummer, MN. The couple farmed in this area including Plummer, Oklee and Fosston. In 1971 they moved to Anchorage Alaska where Eugene worked as a masonry cement laborer for John Wayne Construction Company. He retired in 1978 and returned to the original Asselin farm near Oklee where he has since resided.
Eugene enjoyed gardening to give the produce away and square dancing. He was an active member of the St. Francis Xavier Church, a member of the Woodman of the World, the Moose Lodge in Grand Rapids and the cement finishers of Alaska.
Eugene is survived by his wife Eva Asselin of Oklee, MN; nine children Lois (Clinton) Hanson of Fargo, ND; Judy (Glen) Aaknes of S. Milwaukee, WI; Ken (Sally) Asselin of St. Francis, WI; Therese (Don) Linnertz of East Grand Forks, MN; Clifford (Joyce) Asselin of Williams, AZ; Don Asselin of Court Side, AZ; Elizabeth (Gene) Alderson of Walker, MN; Val (Herb) Coakwell of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and Roger (Karen) Asselin of Brooks, MN. 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One brother Steve Asselin of Brooks, MN. And many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, children Phyllip David Asselin, Gerard Asselin, Jeffrey Asselin, Rodney Asselin and Rita Linder. Two brothers Homer Asselin and George Asselin and one sister Doria Loranger.
