Orlando, who was from Pasco, was killed early in the morning in a car accident when another driver crossed the center line and hit his car head-on. The second driver is under investigation for drunk driving, said the Washington State Patrol. Orlando died when his 1999 Suzuki Esteem was hit by a 1998 Ford Taurus driven by Lori Christensen, 47, of Kennewick. Christensen had crossed the double yellow line and was driving south at 5:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 397, also known as Oregon Avenue on that stretch. The cars collided near the city's cemetery and the Motel 6. Christensen was injured and taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, said the WSP. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Christensen had just pulled out of the Motel 6 parking lot and onto Oregon Avenue when she drifted into the opposite lane of traffic and crashed into Abarca-Rivera. Sgt. Zach Elmore said Christensen supposedly had "consumed intoxicants" the night before but "we don't know when she stopped and we don't know how much." Drugs also are suspected of being involved, he said, adding that a drug recognition expert was called to evaluate Christensen. A blood sample also was drawn when she was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland with minor injuries, Elmore said. Once released from the hospital, Christensen was expected to be booked into the Franklin County jail. Orlando had an apple-picking bag in the car with him, and Elmore said it appeared he was on his way to work. He lived in the Tri-Cities for 10 years, according to his death notice. He was a field worker at Monson Ranches.

Orlando was born in Guerrero, Lomas Blancas, Mexico to Inocencia Rivera and Lamberto Abarca. Orlando had a 7 year old daughter, Andrea Abarca. He worked as an agriculture worker with Monsos Ranch. Orlando was a true family man. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and traveling with family. He also enjoyed dancing, and playing poker. He was very respectful. Most of all he loved his daughter with all his heart. He is survived by his daughter Andrea, brothers Marcos, Agustin, and Gerardo Abarca-Rivera; sisters Alejandrina, Nicomedes, Sonia, Senaida, and Karielis; Parents and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Viewing was on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 12-6pm at Hillcrest Bruce Lee Memorial Center, 2804 W. Lewis St. in Pasco. Rosary will be at 6pm following the viewing. Mass of Christian burial was on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, 11am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1320 West Henry St. in Pasco. He was buried in Guerrero, Mexico.
