Mrs. Lizzie Davis Bogue was born in Polk County, Iowa, January 2, 1872, and passed away last Sunday, August 7, 1949, at the Lutheran hospital in Ft. Dodge, Iowa.
In June of 1895 she was united in marriage with Henry Bogue of Berwick. Two children were born to this union. Beryl and Beulah. Brother Bogue and Beryl preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Beulah of Renwick, Iowa; two sisters Mary Peters of Ankeny and Clara Wright of Berwick; four brothers, Wiley, John and Courtney, of Berwick, and Orville N. of Hollywood, California; two granddaughters, Shirley Smith of Des Moines, and Mary Jean Bogue of Pasadena, Cal. Also other relatives and a great host of friends.
Very early in life Mrs. Bogue, united with the Berwick Congregational Church and later on moving to Ankeny, she transferred her membership to the First Congregational Church in Ankeny, where she has been active in church, Sunday School and Ladies' Aid circles, whenever health permitted. She was a good woman. She lived for those who loved her, for those who knew her true, for the heavens that bent above her, and the good that she could do.
In her Bible was found the following verse, no doubt placed there by her at the time of the recent death of her mother who had lived long past the 100 year mark:
"We have lost our darling Mother,
She has bid us all adieu,
She has gone to live in Heaven
And her form is lost to view;
O that dear one, how we loved her;
O how hard to give her up;
But an angel came down for her,
And removed her from our dwelling;
Lonely are our hearts today
For the one we loved so dearly
Has forever passed away."
The following tribute was paid to Mrs. Bogue by a neighbor:
"She was a loyal, faithful Red Cross worker. During the war, when the Ankeny Chapter made surgical dressings, she who was one of our ________ in the First Congregational Church in Ankeny, Rev. E. A. Elliott, of Des Moines, a former pastor and old friend, in charge. Interment in the Berwick cemetery.
The pallbearers were the nephews of Mrs. Bogue: Russell, Gerald and Lester Davis, Cloyd Wright, Morris Anderson and Dwight Hecker.
Music was furnished by Mesdames Georgia West and Anna Essick, accompanied by Mrs. Ferne Kline, at the piano.
