Mrs. Nell Biggs (Sims), 98, in the presence of family, went on to be with her Lord and Savior on June 23, 2012.

Mrs. Biggs was born in Reed Springs, MO, on November 14, 1913.

After graduating from Stone County High School in 1931, Mrs. Biggs continued on to Teachers College in Springfield. Mrs. Biggs taught elementary school for three years before she, her husband Robert, and son Jerry moved to California in a 1937.

After the birth of her daughter Janet in 1937, Mrs. Biggs went to work at the California Department of Motor Vehicles where she spent 40 years in Driver's License and Financial Responsibility.

Playing an active role in her children's lives, Mrs. Biggs was a 4-H Leader, making sure Janet and Jerry were successful in both their academic and extra-curricular pursuits.

Mrs. Biggs was also an effective and involved member of California State Employees Association where she led and participated on a number of committees and action groups.

After a small time in retirement, she did return to her post in state service for three years while she was in her seventies.

She was a member of Harvest Community Church and a resident of Cedar Creek Retirement Home since 2005

In her retirement, Mrs. Biggs occupied her time on the family ranch near Chowchilla, CA where she and son Jerry enjoyed raising Polled Hereford cattle and promoting the breed through California Nevada Polled Hereford Association.

She was very active with retiree issues at CSEA and continued to engage her state and national representatives on a number of agricultural issues.

Mrs. Biggs was preceded in death by her husband Robert, son Jerry, brother Frank Sims, mother Era Sims (Wilson) and father Jesse Sims.

Surviving and extended family include Janet Petrucci (Enzo), daughter-in-law, Jean Biggs (Jerry), her Grandchildren Matt Angell (Lori), Daniel Biggs (Teresa), Lori Mascarenas (Stephen), and Robert Petrucci (Celena); Great-grandchildren Joshua Biggs (Danielle), Abby and Emily Schoettler, Michael Angell, Katelyn Biggs, Macy Mascarenas and Richard and Lucille Donati, and their daughter Lisa (Joey) Alliotti.

Services will be held and concluded at Jay Chapel in Madera on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 11:00 A.M.

Private interment will be held at the Chowchilla Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name to Hinds Hospice at 1616 W. Shaw Avenue, Suite A-5 Fresno, CA 93711.
