At the age of three she moved with her family to Fresno. She was an honor student and enjoyed being part of the Rainbow Girls during high school. She graduated from Fresno High in 1939.
A short time later she married and had her first two children, Charlyn and Gary Mitchell. Several years later her life transitioned and she found herself a single mother and starting a new career at Pacific Bell. It was there that she met her true love John "Jack" Border. They were married in 1960, and six years later had their daughter Murray.
Merilyn worked at the IRS for 15 years. She retired in 1987. She loved being a wife, homemaker and mother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and working in her yard. She was an avid reader and instilled that passion into her children and grandchildren. On nice days she could be found reading on her patio with her husband as they enjoyed their garden and the many humming birds.
Her greatest joy was being with her family. She loved hearing all the stories from her children and grandchildren. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Her kind, gentle spirit and smile will be cherished in our hearts forever. She truly was Our Angel on Earth.
Merilyn, age 91, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at her home in Fresno, with her husband Jack by her side. Merilyn was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Wendy Brown; and her great-great granddaughter Kira Rayne. Merilyn is survived by Jack, her loving husband, of 52 years; her daughter, Charlyn Brown; son, Gary Mitchell and wife Phillys; daughter Murray Rigby and husband Scott; step-daughter Katie Rojo and husband Frank. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
