Hans Christian Bentsen (Chris), 69, retired railroad conductor, died at 11:35 p.m., Wednesday December 3, 1958. in the Bear Lake Memorial Hosptial after a lingering illness. He was born January 29, 1888 at Dromenlund,Denmark, (Dorf Dronninglund, Hjorring, Denmark) the son of Jens and Katherine Madisin Bentsen, (Ane Marie Katrine Madsen Bentsen).
Mr. Bentsen and Sophronia Jane Dayton were married October 7, 1909 in the L.D.S. temple in Salt Lake City. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad from 1910 until 1954, when he retired as a conductor.
Besides his widow he is survived by four sons, Carl Bentsen of Rawlins, Wyoming, Gerald H. Bentsen, Florin C. Bentsen, and Alfred (Cub) Bentsen, all of Montpelier, Idaho; three daughters, Mrs. W.D. (Elma) Moss and Mrs. Howard (Virl) McMurray, both of Montpelier, and Mrs. Max (Bonnie) Stanfield, (Mrs. Bob (Bonnie) Berg of Salt Lake City; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild two brothers, Peter and Carl Bentsen, and two sisters, Krista and Lisa, all in Denmark. One son John Walter preceded him in death.
Furneral services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Third and Fifth ward chapel, conducted by Bishop Doyle Anthony of the Fourth ward. Prayer at the mortuary was offered by Dean Hansen.
The openening song, "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," was by Max Haddock; invocation, Louis Kunz, obituary and remarks, Bishop Anthony; song "Hold Thou My Hand," Mr. Haddock and Mrs. Reed Lowe; speaaker Bishop Alvin Tueller; song "A Perfect Day" Mrs. Waldo Andersen; speaker President Reed Dayton; song "Oh Dry Those Tears," Mrs. Lowe; benediction, Lynn Nate. Accompanists were Mrs. Lester Armatage and Mrs. H.O. Petereit, and the prelude and postlude were played by Mrs. Armatage.
Interment was in the Monpelier Cemetery, where the grave was dedicated by Cecil Dunn.
Honorary pallbears were J.E. Homer, A.P. Hansen, Harry Severn, Edgar Robinson, E.G. Edwards and George Nussbaum. The active pallbearers included Elwood Sparks, Archie Homer, Donovan Stephens, Max Hansen, Clifford Jensen and LaGrande Arnell. Matthews Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
