Emma Covode was the daughter of Congressman John Covode (b. 1808 d. 1871) and Margaret Ann Peale (b. 1822 d. 1899). She married Charles Benton Blair on June 5, 1889 in Grand Rapids. They had four children, Charles, Margaret, John & James. Charles and his wife Blanche lived in Grand Rapids, Margaret married Charles W. Curtis Jr. and they raised their five children in Marlborough, MA, John moved to California and James met an untimely & tragic death at age 40 never having married. Emma could be best described as dour, strict and very conservative.
