Margaret was the daughter of Martin Yopp and Barbara Limbach. The family immigrated to the United States in 1848 and they settled in Paducah, Kentucky. On 27 Jun 1864, she married John Arts and they had eleven children: Elizabeth, Ann, Rosa, Jacob, Albert Andrew, Barbara, Joseph, Margaret, Albert Nicholas, George and Henry. She died of an abscess of the liver at the age of 65.
