2nd Lord Botetourt and Baron of Weoley

Son of Thomas de Botetourte and Joan de Somery, grandson of John de Botetourt and Maud FitzOtho, and Sir Roger de Somery.

Husband of Baroness Botetourt Joyce La Zouche de Mortimer, the daughter of Sir William la Zouche and his first wife Alice de Toeni. They were married on or before 31 May 1347. John and Joyce had a son John who died in 1369 and a daughter Joyce de Botetourt who married Baldwin Freville. Other children are said to have been Alice who married John Kyriel, Katherine who married Maurice de Berkeley and Elizabeth who died young.

Joyce had to have died by 1358 as John then married Maud Grey, the daughter of Sir John de Grey of Rotherfield. They married shortly after 28 Nov 1358, and had one son and two daughters; John, Joyce (wife of Sir Hugh Burnell) and another daughter who married Sir John Philip.

John succeeded to the title of Baron on the 25th of November, 1324, had livery of his mother's lands on the 16th of July, 1341 and was a member of Parliament from 1342 to 1385.

John's will was probated in 1386 at Lambeth, London, and his barony was held in suspension until his granddaughter, Joyce, took control. She was the daughter of John de Botetourt and Maud de Grey, the daughter of her grandfather's first father-in-law.
