Robert M. Bacon, 95, of Hopewell Township died Tuesday morning May 5, 2015 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland following a few months of declining health.

He was born November 11, 1919 in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Harry and Sarah Ayars Bacon. Predeceased by his wife, Irene K. (nee Allen) Bacon, in 1986, he was a lifelong Bridgeton area resident. Mr. Bacon graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1937 and served in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to work for NJ Bell Telephone. His career with the phone company spanned more than 38 years, before retiring as a foreman in 1980.

As a young man, he attended Berean Baptist Temple in Bridgeton and was later active during his married life at the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Bacon was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and had also been a member of Shoemaker Post #95 American Legion. In addition, he was a former member of Evening Star Lodge F. & A.M. in Bridgeton.

One of his passions was playing golf and he was a member of the Centerton Golf Club for a number of years. He played golf after the age of 80 and could often shoot a score which equaled his age.

He is survived by one son, R. Jeffrey Bacon and his wife Mary of Fairton, one daughter, Dale S. Carothers and her husband Gary of West Palm Beach, FL, one granddaughter, Christina Irene Bacon and several nieces and nephews.

He was the last surviving of nine children and was predeceased by brothers, Warren, Harry, Mike and Russell Bacon and sisters, Helen and Alma Bacon, Sara Kates and Evelyn Loper.
