He attended local schools and became a semi-truck driver and ultimately was elected as an officer in the local Teamsters Union. He met and married Elizabeth 'Betty' Regula from Chicopee, Massachusetts and they had six surviving children, Anthony 'Tony', Susan 'Suzie', Deborah 'Debbie', Robert 'Robbie', John and Caroline. One child died shortly after birth who was the triplet of Robert and John. John developed an enlarged heart and succumbed to that illness the day after his forty-seventh birthday.
