James William Eib, Jr. was the son of Ida G. Turpin and James William Eib. James and his sisters and brother were born in Dodson, Missouri, a small community located in the southeast area of Kansas City, quite close to what is now the Swope Park Zoo.

James started working for Frisco Railroad when he was approximately 20 years old. He retired as an engineer in 1970 after 50 years of service. James was a member of the International Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. His father most likely was employed by Frisco and its predecessor, Missouri Pacific, which developed an interurban track from Dodson to Kansas City in the 1880s. The track in Dodson started at the current intersection of 85th Street and Prospect. These two railroads where the lifeline of Dodson and made it a thriving community while providing employment for those who lived there.

James married Mabel Marie Nelson in Neosho, Coffey County, Kansas on April 17, 1918. She was the daughter of Nellie Grant Peek and Charles Eldridge Nelson. On June 4, 1918, just a few weeks after their marriage, James completed his World War I draft registration card and shortly thereafter he started service in the Navy. Upon his return, James and Mabel started their family. Their first child was a daughter, Geraldine. She was soon followed by a brother, named after his father and grandfather, James William Eib, III. James and Mabel divorced a few years later.

James married Nellie Helen Cody on November 9, 1929 in Kansas City. Nellie was born in the United States. Her mother, Margaret Gibbons Cody, was born in Galway, Ireland. The couple had one child in their marriage, Marion J. Eib, born November 26, 1934. Tragically, Marion was premature and died the following day. Nellie had a daughter, Gloria, from her first marriage.

The last marriage for James was to Vera Larue Hinken Otten on October 23, 1976 in Kansas City. They had been married 15 years at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife Vera, daughter Geraldine, son James, two grandsons, two great grandsons, two step grandchildren.
