According to census records, Florien was born about 1844 in Germany. The gravestone says he was 64 at the time of his death which would make his birth year 1825. I'm not sure of his birth location in Germany since different sources have different birth locations.
Florien and Margaret Buchert were married in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 17, 1868. They first appear in census records in 1870, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana:
~ Florence [sic] Deck, 25, male, carpenter, personal estate value $300, b. Bavaria
~ Margaret Deck, 27, female, b. Bavaria
~ George Deck, 1, male, b. Louisiana
As Margaret's obituary states, Florien was a general contractor. At least one son, George, followed in his footsteps.

"Cemetery records were destroyed when the sexton's cottage burned in August 1889, so no information about date of burial, undertaker, burial fee, the precise location of his grave, or any other details are available.
Gravestone was found during the 1933 and 1986 inscription surveys. The inscription read: Florien Deck, died Jan. 6, 1889, aged 64. But the gravestone was not found during the 2011 photographic survey of the cemetery. Subsequent searches in the area of his burial have not revealed any partially legible gravestones or fragments that could be identified as his marker.
GPS coordinates (below) designate Section Gw Lot 1, not the specific location of Florean's grave."
In August 2013 I obtained a photo of Florien's gravestone and JF-B is going to try to locate that particular stone in Union Cemetery in hopes of correcting the cemetery records. It may be the photograph was taken before it had disappeared by the 2011 survey or the records were simply wrong and he was actually buried in a different plot. Locating Florien's stone is not going to be an easy task.
