Bertha was born in Campbell County, Tennessee. She was the oldest child of six. Bertha remembered walking alongside their covered wagon when her parents migrated from Tennessee to Oklahoma. They arrived in Oklahoma in time for the 1900 census.
Bertha married William Elbert Benge on April 3, 1907. They had celebrated their 60th anniversary two months prior to his death on June 19, 1967. Bertha was survived by their daughter Ethel and husband Eugene Bowman, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren.
Bertha had lived in Prior for about 15 years, moving from Elk City in western Oklahoma. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
