Frances Ada Burkhart, a great granddaughter of Oregon Pioneers [Leander Columbus and Melissa Ann (Davidson) Burkhart], and daughter of John G. and Ada Olga (Lucht) Burkhart who lived on the family's donation land claim in Price (a township near Albany), Linn County, Oregon, was one of three children borne from the marriage of John and Ada Burkhart. She was the youngest child, born Oct 18, 1917. Her older sister, Alene Laura, was born June 15, 1914, and her older brother was Hezekiah Charles, born July 25th, 1911. All of the children were born at the family's home where John grew crops in the Willamette Valley's fertile soil to support his family. "Hez", as he was fondly called, was a tall, shy, young boy who loved to help his father work the land and who never married, being married to his family's homestead. Both Alene and Frances lived at home until they married. Per the U S Census for 1920, taken Jan 26th of 1920, John and his wife owned the farm free of any mortgage. His wife's brother, William Lucht, a native of Wisconsin (as was Ada) and 9 yrs. older than his sister, lived on the next farm over from John and Ada and their family with his wife, Bertie, both born in Wisconsin of German parents, with 2 sons, John E., age 14, b. WI., and Elmer C., age 12, B. Ill., and daughter, Frieda, aged 2yrs. 3m., born in Oregon. They were renting their farm. The 1930 Census was taken on Apr 3rd, 1930, and Frances's family remained the same, but with the addition of a radio (a census question). The Lucht family still lived on the next farm over, but now only Frieda, age 12 yrs., and another son, Walter H., age 8 yrs., were in the home with their parents, Frances's aunt and uncle. The last Census that has been released to the public (for now) is from 1940; This time, John and Ada were in their 50's and John and Hez, now 28, continued to farm the land, valued at $2800. Frances was 22 and still in the home as well, although Alene had married to Edward Lynn McFarland, a cabinet maker who had his own home on Santiam Highway, Albany, Linn County, Oregon, and had moved into his home with him. Ida P. Lucht, Ada's mother, had moved in with her, John, Hez and Frances Burkhart at their farm in Price, Linn Co., Oregon, following the death of her husband and Ada's father in 1933, Carl Wilhelm Eduard Lucht. He had been buried at the IOOF Cemetery in Lebanon. Ida died 13 and a half years later, on Feb 9, 1947, and was buried next to her husband; they share a headstone. Frances went on to marry Harry P. Hill during the 1940's. They lived in Eugene, Lane County, raising their daughters there. Frances lived a very long life, not passing away until Aug 24th, 2008 at the age of 90 years. She was buried at Rest-Haven Memorial Park, Eugene, Lane Co., Oregon, where she shares a headstone with her husband, when he passes on. May she Rest Peacefully in Paradise where all are renewed for Eternity. She was my 2nd Cousin.
