Elizabeth Davidson was born in Barren County, Kentucky in 1827, one of eight children borne of the marriage of Hezekiah Davidson and Melissa Ann (Page) Davidson, who had wed in 1825. She was about 20 years of age when she came with her parents, brothers and sisters from their home in Illinois to Oregon Territory in 1847, a journey of @2,000 miles that took about five months. They traveled with the Burkhart family who they'd known many years and who would again be related by marriage when their daughter, Melissa Ann, married Leander Columbus Burkhart in 1851. After reaching the Willamette Valley in Oregon, the two families parted as the Burkharts settled in the Albany and Lebanon area of what would become Linn County. The Davidsons settled in what became Polk County, choosing to live in the Buena Vista, Monmouth and Independence areas, while other Davidsons settled in Southern Oregon, in Jackson and Josephine Counties. Eliza married Benjamin Franklin Burch, a native of Missouri who had come to Oregon in 1845, initially living on the Yamhill River, then relocating a few miles further on a Donation Land Claim that would eventually become part of the town of Independence, Polk County. The couple wed on Sep 6th, 1848, and created a home for themselves and the seven children that would be borne of their union. I have used the Census and burial records to locate four of their children, one of whom I can only identify by her initials and gender. To my knowledge, their children were:
Mary A., b.1849, d. before the 1860 census
Samuel B., b.Aug 3, 1854, d.Mar 12, 1882
J. Ellis, a son, dates unknown
Benjamin Franklin Jr., dates unknown and
M.A., a daughter, b.@1866.
All of the children were born on the family's homestead in Polk County, Oregon.
Eliza's husband was active in state politics, was the superintendent of the Oregon penitentiary, was involved in the Cayuse Indian war, served in the Yakima war and, when the 1870 Census was taken, stated he was a Preacher. As of that date (June 15, 1870), his land was valued at $8,000 and he had $1,500 cash. The family was living in Independence, Polk County, as of that date. When the 1880 Census was taken (June 9, 1880), they were in the Buena Vista - Luckimute area of Polk County and, at the age of 55 yrs., Eliza's husband stated he was a Farmer. Their son, Samuel, now 25, was also working on the family's farm, was married to Arellia Clarinda Hill, and they had a son, known only as J.E. Burch, b.July 1879. The Census taker noted that Arellia was sick or disabled due to her "Lungs". It makes me wonder if she had TB; none the less, she died just two months after the census was taken and her husband died two years later. I don't know what happened to their son. An unrelated farm hand also lived on their farm. Eliza's husband died March 24th, 1893 at home from heart failure and was interred at the Burch (Family) Pioneer Cemetery in Rickreall, Polk County, Oregon. By this time, Eliza was about 66 years of age. I've not been able to find any information on her after the 1880 Census which leads me to believe she died prior to 1900. However, I haven't been able to find her anywhere in the Find A Grave system and have been looking for four years now. I have created this memorial for her, hoping that some day she will be found and that this memorial can be linked to her. Her parents are my maternal 3x great grandparents. Until her grave is found, she is remembered here. May she Rest in Peace with her Loved Ones.

Elizabeth's parents, Hezekiah and Melissa Ann "Lucy" (Page) Davidson, are my maternal 3x grandparents; daughter Melissa Ann Davidson married Leander Columbus Burkhart in 1851 and they resided in Albany, Linn Co., Oregon. Leander and Melissa Ann Burkhart are my 2x maternal great grandparents, their daughter, Nellie Olivia, being my maternal great grandmother.
