Pleassa Caroline Burkhart was a daughter of Mary Ellen (Morgan) and Charles Marion Burkhart, b.Dec 7, 1878 in Albany, Linn County, Oregon. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Pleassa J. (Dunn) Morgan (1837-1924). Her paternal grandparents, Coriolanus Domaras (known as "Crill") and Caroline Lavinia (Goff) Burkhart had helped settle the town of Albany, in the Oregon Territory. It had become a state in 1859, before she was born. She was a daughter of the pioneers of Oregon and was raised to be well educated, as were all of the Burkhart children, both sons and daughters. All of the Burkhart children were also raised with a deep and abiding Faith in God who had brought their families through many hardships. Their early ancestors had fled Germany because of religious persecution in the 1700's. Pleassa met James Edwin Foster, they fell in love and married on Jan 2nd, 1901. He was a farmer in the Albany area which suited her as her parents and grandparents were farmers also. She set about housekeeping and they raised a family of three children. Eva Ellen was b.1901, Charles Robert was b.1903 and Elden was b.1907. It was tragic that Eva died of peritonitis from appendicitis when she was only 13 years old. She died at the hospital and was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Albany.
Charles died at the age of 38 yrs. from an inoperable brain tumor. Elden lived to be @46 yrs. of age. He did marry but there were no children born of his union. Caroline lived 4 years longer than her husband, James, who passed away in 1948 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery. She died at the age of 83 yrs. and was buried next to her beloved family at Riverside Cemetery, Albany, Oregon. The family who had loved so closely in life is buried together at Riverside Cemetery in Albany, Oregon.
