Orville Davidson was a first generation Oregonian, born to emigrant parents James Orville Davidson (1825-1899) and Mary Elizabeth (Linville) Davidson (1838-1914) on Oct 30, 1859, the year that Oregon became a state. He was born and raised on his family's donation land claim in the Buena Vista area of Polk County, Oregon. He was one of nine children who attended school and helped his parents on the family's farm. In 1860, he is listed as "J.O. Davidson", named after his father. He is listed as Orville in both 1870 and 1880. I don't know why his name was amended or what the R. stands for, unless it is for "Ralph", which is the same name as his younger brother, Ralph Leonard Davidson, who was born Apr 17, 1883. As an adult, he never married [to my knowledge], but is listed as working on the family's farm as of 1880, along with his brother, Ellis, and father, when he was listed as being 23 yrs. of age [he would have actually been just 20]. I wish I knew what took his life. I only know that he died Feb 21st, 1884 at the age of 24 yrs. and is buried at Buena Vista Cemetery, Buena Vista, Polk County, Oregon, with his parents and many of his brothers and sisters.
May they all Rest at Peace in Paradise.
His grandparents, Hezekiah and Melissa Ann (Page) Davidson are my 3x great grandparents.
His photo was originally given to his cousin, Fannie Burkhart, whose photo album has been passed down thru the generations. His aunt was Fannie's mother, Melissa Ann Davidson Burkhart, my great, great grandmother.
